Didi Means "Sister" in Hindi. The Didi Jewelry Project provides you with the opportunity to purchase unique handcrafted jewelry made by women in India who are affected by HIV/AIDS. The main goal of The Didi Jewelry Project is to provide these women with full time employment so that they are able to support themselves and their families and lead positive, confident lives.
This exotic collection of handmade jewelry is what "Gypset Style" is all about: Effortless, inspired and bohemian. Didi Jewelry combines the ancient techniques of macrame and bead weaving with a contemporary design sense.
Laurel Gunnarson is the founder of The Didi Jewelry Project . When she first went to India at 16 she was struck by the positive kindness of the people despite their poverty. After many trips volunteering with women and children in India, Laurel decided to combine her life-long love of creating jewelry with her passion for helping women in India in 2012.
The Didi Jewelry Project works hand-in-hand with Aashiana, a non-governmental organization in New Delhi that serves those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The Didi Jewelry Project has grown and now provides 13 women with full time work. When you buy Didi Jewelry you are not just purchasing unique handmade jewelry, but you are helping your sisters in India create the lives they deserve.
